The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming Labour leader Chris Hipkins’ support for extending the Official Information Act to cover Parliament, following a question put to him today.
Taxpayers’ Union Investigative Lead, Rhys Hurley, said:
“We welcome Chris Hipkins’ backing for greater transparency and look forward to him turning his support into a firm election commitment following his response to my question today.”
“This is a win for democracy. Opening Parliament’s books to OIA scrutiny would give taxpayers greater transparency over how their money is being spent.”
“Earlier this month, National’s Waitaki MP Miles Anderson also backed opening Parliament’s books. Now we need a commitment from the Prime Minister to help make this reform a reality.”
