Win Your Rates Back Competition (“the Competition”) Terms & Conditions
- Information on how to enter the Competition forms part of the terms and conditions of entry. Entry into the Competition or acceptance of any prize is deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions.
- The New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union Inc., Level 4, 117 Lambton Quay, Wellington 6011, is the promoter of this Competition (“the Promoter”).
- This Competition is not in any way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter) or any other organisation, event or individual. Any queries, comments or complaints about the Competition must be directed to the Promoter and not to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X or any other organisation, event or individual. In participating in the Competition, you are providing information to the Promoter and not to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X or any other organisation, event or individual. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to release Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X or any other organisation, event or individual from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with your participation in the Competition or with any of the prizes offered.
- The Competition is open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents over the age of 18. Entrants must not be resident in a jurisdiction in which participation breaches any applicable laws. By entering, the entrant warrants that he or she is permitted by law in the relevant jurisdiction to do so.
- Employees of the Promoter as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible to enter the Competition.
- The winner of the Competition agrees to the Promoter announcing them as a winner through the social media channels of the Promoter, including their full name for no compensation.
- By entering the Competition, the entrant agrees to be subscribed to regular email updates from the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union relating to any of our campaigns or activities. The entrant may unsubscribe from these updates at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the end of any update. Unsubscribing from New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union updates prior to the announcement of the winner will disqualify the entrant from the competition.

Or, complete entry using the Fieldays smartband programme: - To be eligible, you must have registered your first name, last name and email address on the Fieldays smartband system.
- Entering using your Fieldays smartband will be considered as acceptance of these Competition Terms and Conditions
- Only one entry per person is allowed and multiple entries will result in an entrant being disqualified.
- The Promoter reserves the right to remove, have removed or disqualify any entry that does not meet these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
- Details of the Competition, including details of the entry process will be communicated via the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union social media pages, physical signage or verbally at public events.
Competition Period
- The Competition commences at 5am 11 June 2025 (NZT) and closes at 12am on July 2025 (“Competition Period”). Entries received after the Competition Period will be ineligible to enter the Competition. The Promoter reserves the right to close the competition early for any reason, or extend the competition period to a later date for any reason.
The Prize
- The Competition prize is to match the winner’s District Council rates, up to a maximum of $5000 NZD, and will be paid into a New Zealand bank account nominated by the winner.
- All valid entries received during the Competition Period will go into the draw to win the prize, with one (1) winner selected. The winner will be determined by the Promoter within two (2) weeks of the close of the Competition Period. The winner will be randomly selected from all valid entries.
- The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any winner who does not comply with these terms and conditions and select a replacement winner in accordance with these terms and conditions.
- Once determined, a prize winner will be notified directly via email on the same day they are selected and the winner will be publicly announced via any of the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union social media pages.
- The right to receive any prize is conditional upon the winner providing evidence of their most recent District or City Council rates bill to the Promoter upon request.
- The right to receive any prize is conditional upon the winner making contact with the Promoter within 48 hours of being notified. If the winner cannot be contacted, or does not claim the prize within this time, the Promoter reserves the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and reselect a replacement winner.
- The prize only includes the money set out in clause 13. The Promoter is not responsible for the payment of any duties, fees or taxes, or any other expenses incurred in taking up the prize. All other expenses are the responsibility of the prize winner. The prize is non-transferable and non-exchangeable.
Privacy
- Any personal information relating to the winner or any other entrants provided on the Competition entry form is collected by the Promoter for the purposes of this Competition and to subscribe them to regular email updates from the Promoter.
- Any personal information provided by the winner or any other entrants on the Competition entry form will be used solely in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020, these Terms and Conditions and the Promoter’s Privacy Policy that can be accessed here: https://www.taxpayers.org.nz/privacy_policy
- The Promoter's decisions in respect of all matters to do with the Competition are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The Promoter reserves the right to substitute any prize in whole (or any of its components), with a substitute prize of equal or greater value if the prize (or any of its components) cannot be provided for reasons outside the Promoter's reasonable control.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Promoter gives no representation, guarantee or warranty with respect to the prize provided under this Competition. In particular, the Promoter gives no warranty with respect to the quality of a prize, its suitability or fitness for any purpose.
- Each winner takes the prize entirely at their own risk and indemnifies the Promoter and any third party provider engaged for the purposes of this Competition in respect of any claim, demands, actions, losses, liabilities and suits arising out of or attributable to participation in the Competition and/or any use of a prize.
- The Promoter assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries into the Competition. Entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt of the entry into the Competition database. The Promoter assumes no responsibility for any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person’s electronic devices related to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in relation to the Competition. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who tampers with any of the Competition processes or engages in conduct that may damage the reputation of the Promoter or its affiliated entities at any time.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither the Promoter nor any other person or party associated with the Competition shall be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with either participation in the Competition or with any prizes offered.
- This Competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by the laws of New Zealand and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of New Zealand.
- Nothing in these terms and conditions limits or modifies the consumer's rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
- If for any reason beyond its reasonable control the Promoter or its agents or contractors are unable to run the Competition as described, the Promoter reserves the right to postpone, extend, amend, re-schedule or cancel the Competition (“the Change”) at any time at its sole discretion on the provision of reasonable notice (which will include posting notice of the Change on the competition website www.taxpayers.org.nz, or any of the Promoter’s social media pages.
- The Promoter reserves the right to alter, amend or supplement these terms and conditions at any time in its absolute discretion. You agree that you shall be bound by such changes and that you shall not hold the Promoter liable for any losses resulting from any such changes.
