Petition: Media outlets must repay taxpayer funding

Media

Taxpayers' Union polling reveals most New Zealanders believe government funding undermines media independence. Whether or not this is true is irrelevant, perceptions of independence are important for retaining trust and confidence in the media.

This comes after the Government has given millions hand over fist to the likes of the NZ Herald, Stuff, and The Spinoff from the $55 million Public Interest Journalism Fund.

Sign the petition calling on media companies to pay back the Public Interest Journalism Fund to restore confidence in media independence.

I call on media companies that took money from the last government’s so-called Public Interest Journalism Fund to restore confidence in media independence and pay it back.
