Request made under the Official Information Act 1982

Thank you for your email of 7 March 2022 to the Minister of Transport, Hon Michael Wood requesting information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). Your request has been transferred to Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act for response, as the request is more closely connected with the functions of Waka Kotahi.

I will address each of your queries in turn.

1.…How much money has been spent on advertising for SH5 Napier Taupo speed drop? (from 100km/h to 80km/h). This would include print and radio advertising, sign boards on the side of the road including installation, new road signs and installation and anything else regarding this.

A total of $7,227.68 (excluding GST) was spent on advertising for the State Highway 5 (SH5) Napier-Taupō safer speed review.

To date, a total of $154,409.25 (excluding GST) has been spent on implementation (this includes new road signs and their installation costs) for the SH5 Rangitaki to Bay View corridor.

2. How much money has been spent on the “Safer Speeds” campaign on TV, including productionand other sources, including social media ads and anything else regarding this?

3.How much money was spent on the one day 23/02/22 on advertising the “Road to Zero”campaign including any launch? Could this please be itemised? There was newspaperadvertising, apparently in every newspaper in the country. How much did the big “0” Michaelstood next to for the launch and anything else regarding this?

The total anticipated cost of the Road to Zero public awareness campaign through to the end of the financial year (30 June 2022) is $4,737,200 (excluding GST). This is broken down as follows:

•Production costs for all creative assets: $2,116,090

•Media placement costs: $2,621,110

Within the total campaign budget of $4,737,200 million, a launch event was held on 23 February 2022 for the Road to Zero campaign and press advertising took place in newspapers across New Zealand. The total cost for the launch event was $21,650.28 (excluding GST). The breakdown is as follows:

•Venue and live streaming: $5,328.28•Catering: $2,040.00•Signage: $9,770.00•Other supporting collateral: $4,512.00

The costs for the Road to Zero newspaper advertising on 23 and 24 February 2022 was $148,361.00, including approximately $10,000 in production costs.

Auckland transport. Unnecessary additions to roads with so many people sitting about doing nothing. Empty cycle lanes, unnecessary traffic lights. Unnecessary road closures all causing frustration to road users and traffic hold ups. The financial cost for all this is unimaginable. There is so many roads in need of real attention and AT spend time renewing perfectly good centre lanes etc etc

I feel that a good government dept award should go to DOC for this was of money that they are already short of.
