Hipkins must guarantee no more money for gangs

The Taxpayers’ Union is calling on Chris Hipkins to guarantee that no taxpayer funding will go to gangs or gang-controlled organisations under a Labour-led Government.

Taxpayers’ Union spokeswoman, Ella Dickson, said:

“It's not enough to promise the Greens and Te Pāti Māori won't be running the Police or Justice portfolios. Families pay taxes believing they will help fund safe communities, not bankroll organisations connected to the very gangs causing violent harm in those communities.

“Labour's last Government approved $2.75 million for the Kahukura rehabilitation initiative, developed by the Mongrel Mob. Taxpayers deserve a guarantee that history won't repeat.

“If Hipkins is serious about distancing Labour from gangs, here's his chance to prove it. No excuses and not another cent of taxpayer funding for gangs.”
