The Taxpayers’ Union is criticising the Green Party’s proposal to reverse National’s public service spending cuts at a reported cost of $3.17 billion, or $1,530 per household, despite the public service still employing 17,283 more people than in 2017.
Taxpayers’ Union spokesman, Rhys Hurley, said:
“Public service headcount grew 39 percent under Labour, yet the Coalition has reduced staffing by just 1.77 percent, cutting only 1,164 roles. That is barely one-sixteenth of the increase under the previous Government.”
“New Zealanders are still having to find savings in their own budgets every day. The Greens should explain why Wellington's bureaucracy cannot be expected to do the same.”
