Lower Taxes, Less Waste,

Championing Value For Money From Every Tax Dollar

PETITION: FUND MEDICINE, NOT MOVIES

The Government spends more than $100 million of taxpayer money every year on handing out corporate welfare subsidies to the film and gaming sectors while life-saving medicines go unfunded. This money should go to Pharmac to support lifesaving healthcare, not billionaire Hollywood bigwigs. As an idea of how this money could be better spent, the cost of funding 13 cancer treatments that are currently available in Australia but not New Zealand would be $70 million per year – $30 million less than what we spend on film and gaming subsidies.

It's time the Government prioritised funding medicine over movies.

"I call on the Government to scrap film and gaming subsidies and use the money to fund medicines through Pharmac instead."
