Stop Three Waters
Opposing the Labour Government's Three Waters reforms has been the Taxpayers' Union's most significant campaign to date. With the support of our grassroots network, we took to the road to mobilise New Zealanders to speak up against the reforms. Our roadshow highlighted how unpopular the proposed reforms were and put pressure on councils and councillors to oppose Three Waters.

We decked our campervan with "Stop Three Waters" signage and held public meetings in 39 towns and cities across New Zealand.
Our supporters put up Stop Three Waters roadside banners up and down the country - many of which are still up today!
Following our roadshow, New Zealanders sent a loud message to the Government to Stop Three Waters, with 68,661 submissions lodged via our StopThreeWaters.nz tool on the Water Service Entities Bill.
Our Petition also received more than 100,000 signatures.
Thanks to our supporters, we were able to make Three Waters the key issue of Local Government elections in 2022.
In February 2024, we won the campaign when Parliament voted to repeal Nanaia Mahuta's divisive Water Service Entities Act – a historic moment for New Zealanders and a huge moment in our biggest campaign ever!
