Scrapping Climate Change Commission would be a win for taxpayers

The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming ACT’s renewed commitment to scrap the Climate Change Commission, three years after first backing its abolition.

Taxpayers’ Union spokeswoman, Ella Dickson, said:

“This would be a huge win for taxpayers. We backed scrapping the Commission in 2023 and are pleased ACT has stuck with it.

“Taxpayers have spent around $100 million on the Commission, with another $14–15 million a year going to a bureaucracy governments can simply ignore. With government debt approaching $140,000 per household, it is exactly the kind of spending that should go.

“We look forward to seeing the abolition of the Commission, along with other wasteful bureaucracies including the demographic ministries, treated as hard red lines in coalition negotiations.”
