The Stop Three Waters roadshow comes to Rotorua
On Wednesday (29 June) we're taking the 'Stop Three Waters' roadshow to Rotorua.
The main gathering point is outside the museum / bathhouse at 12:00pm, but there's also a motorcade and march through town beforehand.
This event will be more of an extravaganza than our typical roadside meetings, thanks to Rotorua District Residents and Ratepayers who have organised a convoy of tractors and utes to welcome us into town.
You're welcome to join the motorcade, or the on-foot protest, or just the speeches at midday. Here's the full plan:
The Motorcade – Estimated Timings
10:00am Muster at the Te Puia carpark
10:20am Depart Te Puia. Travel down Fenton at a modest pace in the left-hand lane without blocking any side roads or driveways. The vehicle route through town can be found here. Park behind the Museum in the Events Centre carpark, overflow behind the Sudima.
Protestors on Foot – Estimated Timings
10:30am Foot protestors greet motorcade on Amohau at northern entrance to the Central Mall
11:00am Foot protestors greet motorcade at the City Focus / Te Manawa on Tutanekai
11:30am Walk down Hinemoa, cross Fenton at the lights, cross Government Gardens to the unused Bowling Green No. 5 in front of the Museum
Speeches – Estimated Timings
12:00pm Short speeches from ratepayer representatives, elected Councillors, and the Taxpayers' Union. Stop Three Waters merchandise will be distributed and sold.
1:00pm Event wraps up. Protestors are invited to mingle at Hennessy's Irish Bar (but the Taxpayers' Union will have to hit the road to Te Awamutu).
Other information
All appropriate authorities have been notified. All protestors are invited to wear high visibility clothing and help others in need.
There is likely to be media interest so we ask protestors to use common sense and not display signage that distracts from the Stop Three Waters message or undermines the reputations of the involved groups. Any inappropriate behaviour is to be reported immediately by calling the Police on 111.
