Lower Taxes, Less Waste,
More Accountability

Championing Value For Money From Every Tax Dollar

Lyttelton Port Company needs full disclosure

Responding to claims that Lyttelton Port Company has kept workers “out of the loop” on its $800 million upgrade plans, Taxpayers’ Union spokesperson Tory Relf said:

“If LGOIMA applied to Lyttelton Port Company, workers, unions and Christchurch ratepayers could all have used it to demand information about the $800 million upgrade. Instead, they’ve been left dependent on what LPC chooses to tell them."

“Port companies are either wholly or majority owned by local authorities and should face the same transparency requirements as other council bodies. Passing the Local Government (Port Companies Accountability) Amendment Bill would give workers, unions and ratepayers the tools to hold port bosses to account.”
