Opportunity Wants To Bring Back The Fart Tax

The Taxpayers’ Union is calling out Opportunity’s proposed methane trading scheme for what it is, a new tax on New Zealand farmers.

Taxpayers’ Union spokesman, Rhys Hurley, said:

“This is the fart tax rising from the dead. Farmers fought it off once, and now Opportunity wants to bring it back dressed up as a methane trading scheme.”

“Call it a trading scheme, a levy, or anything else you like, if farmers are forced to pay for the methane their animals produce, it is a new tax on farming.”

“Loading another tax onto Kiwi farmers will only drive up costs and make New Zealand agriculture less competitive.”
