National needs to stick to 2023 ‘No New Taxes’ pledge

Responding to comments from Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Newstalk ZB this morning, Taxpayers’ Union Spokesman Austin Ellingham-Banks said:

“If the Prime Minister cannot clearly articulate his party’s tax position less than three months out from the election, he should go back to the promise National made to voters in 2023: ‘No New Taxes’."

“A bank tax and a bed tax would both end up being paid by New Zealanders through higher prices, and the inflation tax will continue to eat into pay packets. At a time when households are being squeezed by the cost of living, it should be unthinkable for the National Party to propose even more new taxes as part of its election platform."
