Labour’s public sector bloat has been locked in

The Taxpayers’ Union spokeswoman, Ella Dickson, says the latest public service workforce data shows this Government has locked in Labour’s bureaucratic bloat.

“Labour grew the bureaucracy by 39 percent, and this Government has reduced it by under 3 percent. Less than 1 in 10 of the additional 18,000 bureaucrats Labour added to the payroll have been removed.”

“With progress on right-sizing so far basically stagnant, Nicola Willis has a lot of work ahead to reach National’s target of getting the public service back down to 55,000 staff. Luckily, the Trim the Fat guide shows exactly where all the bloat is hiding.”
