The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming the Justice Committee’s call for urgent reform of local election voting, saying the Government must act now to protect confidence in our democracy.
Taxpayers’ Union spokesperson, Tyler Groenewald, said:
“The Justice Committee has called postal voting ‘no longer fit for purpose’. That should be the final warning. The Government needs to stop kicking the can down the road.
“Voters shouldn’t have to wonder whether their ballot made it to the ballot box or whether someone else got to it first. Democracy depends on secure elections."
