Auckland Transport, for deciding it would be a great idea to shut down the whole train network in Auckland for one month. Every place else does integrations/upgrades and maintenance while keeping things more or less working. I guess there was not the skill set to do this. This must have cost business and individuals who use rail or need it a bucket load of $ inconvenience and time.

Taupo District Council.

For wasting some $50,000 on a low retaining wall along the edge of the beach at Lake Tce, Taupo.

The beach has existed as a nature stretch of clean sand for many years past. Forever in fact. So why design and built a low retaining wall you ask. A beach I have personally used since 1950. I can honestly say there have never been any ‘edge breaks’ in all that time that warranted a retaining wall.

TDC were asked several questions as an OIA back in September 2024 and some were answered. Sample questions and answers follow.


1. You say the 70 metre long wall ‘’cost a total of $50,000’’ That is a very exact amount. Please provide the break down that cost to show the design cost, the construction cost and Council costs, inclusive of GST.

‘’The length of the wall was determined by the budget at the rates provided in the attached proposal. Council do not have a mechanism for charging staff time. Note that we have redacted the pricing in the proposal on the basis of s 7(2)(b)(ii) of LGOIMA which provides for withholding of the information if necessary to protect information, where the making available of the information would be likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied or who is the subject of the information, and there is no overriding public interest requiring its release.’’


2. Please provide a site plan and copy of the planed works for the ‘living wall’ at the hot water beach. Also please explain the effects that have to be mitigated.

‘’The works were set out on site to best cover the areas of edge break and reserve damage, all other details of construction are attached.’’


3. The nice-to-have projects should have been stopped, and TDC has failed to honor that commitment. Please confirm the Manager that approved this work and the acceptance of the contractor’s quote for the timber wall.

AS WELL as the POOR ROADING design for the new Eastern Highway access particularly affecting the traffic coming from Panmure during busy periods and the Traffic light from the college impeding the flow from the highway onto Pakuranga Rd. -blocking the flow of large massive numbers of cars for just ONE vehicle .

Hastings Council, for arranging a council meeting at a local Marae, costing rate payers around $2500.00 for site use and refreshments, when it would of been better held at council own building which is already paid for by rate payers, also councilors were advised of location change at very last minute, not allowing councilors who don’t feel safe in this environment , and a lot of meeting was spoken in te Reo, of which most didn’t know and were blindsided. Cultural and false Gods are offensive to non-Māori, especially when you are a follower of a different God, of which one councilor was. One councilor refused to go, and rightfully so.

New Zealand Police, the 120 officers conducting 30,000 false breath tests to try and meet the NZTA kpi target to secure $6million in funding… and getting caught . Police are now $6million down and still wondering why they are always broke.

Winston Peters for the Ferry debacle!

Shane Jones, Fisheries NZ has had their backside needlessly kicked in 2 court cases about Fishing Quota, They then produced an 84 page Discussion document Rock Lobster Fisheries Management for Erchin Barrens. This false consultation already had a pre-determined intension of depriving Northlanders of 72,000 crayfish meals per year caught by recreational fishers, while allowing commercial crayfishing businesses to continue to catch their existing quota to sell mainly overseas.

The stupidity of the whole situation is that NZ research already existed that proves that crayfish can not fix, repair or control erchin barrens.

During the consultation period I provided the published research to both FNZ and Legasea who was on the other side of the court case. The Legasea science advisor specifically stated; “ I was not happy that the discussion paper focused so much on the kina/cray relationship. As you say the maths don’t add up as a solution.”

I asked FNZ and the Minister to stop the consultation and inform the Courts that they had been mislead.

This has not occurred and recreational take of crayfish in CRA1 east cost is to be banned from April 1 to fix the kina barren issue!

I am trying to get what advise that Minister has received as they have totally ignored the science.

I wish to nominate all those government departments that feel it necessary to have all their signage in Maori and English , duplicating in Maori that which is fully understood by all. God knows what the cost to the country and it is done in a way that diminishes the importance of the majority by having Maori in very bold lettering with the much smaller English name underneath. I find this behaviour belittling and insulting . Governments have squandered millions of taxpayer dollars with this nonsense.Time to call time.

Nicola Willis for spending more than half a billion dollars to not get ferries. Then spending more money to get smaller ferries. And ignoring that she could have negotiated smaller ferries rather than cancelling.

Brooke Van Velden for the road cone hotline. This was set up based on vibes in some quarters that there were too many road cones. Despite considerable publicity, it didn’t attract a lot of complaints and has been canned. I don’t know how the $150,000 alleged cost was arrived at, but I suspect not all costs have been factored in. Certainly the Minister’s time could have been better spent elsewhere.

Nigel Bowen, Strathallan corner redevelopment that has reduced the number of public toilets, put the statue of Bob Simmons with his back to the Main Street, turned that area that was a relaxing spot in the cbd into concrete jungle over budget over time. Was ment to be finished for cruise ship season and still unfinished.
