Don’t hike fuel tax while infrastructure fund is wasted

The Taxpayers’ Union is calling on the Government to scrap January’s planned 12-cent fuel tax hike before Cabinet’s decision deadline on Monday.

Taxpayers’ Union spokeswoman, Ella Dickson, said:

“Before asking motorists for more, the Government should look at where its existing infrastructure money is going. If it can find $68.5 million for EV charging infrastructure, it can find savings before charging drivers more at the pump.

“Motorists already pay around 70 cents a litre in fuel taxes and charges. National and ACT are both campaigning on no new taxes, so Monday is the test: find the savings and cancel the fuel tax hike.”
