CPI rise shows Government must cap rates now
Responding to annual inflation reaching 4.1 percent, Taxpayers’ Union spokesperson Tory Relf said:
“Volatile oil prices and rising household energy costs are already feeding through into the wider economy. Worse is likely to come in the September quarter as large council rates and water increases hit households."
“With inflation already above four percent, the last thing families need is councils piling even more pressure onto household budgets."
“Delaying rates caps gives councils every incentive to front-load increases before the restrictions take effect. To protect households from even more inflationary pressure, the Government must cap rates now.”
