Bribe-O-Meter relaunched for Mt Roskill By-Election
The Bribe-O-Meter is back for the Mt Roskill by-election!
Over the weekend the Labour Party pledged to spend $1.4 billion on light rail to Mt Roskill - meaning that taxpayers from Greymouth, Havelock and Hunley may be on the hook for what is, in effect, an election bribe for the sake a single seat. We hope our Bribe-O-Meter will provide transparency and accountability for what these promises will cost.
As a result, we have relaunched the popular "Bribe-O-Meter" - that the byelection has some transparency and accountability for what the promises will cost. Up until polling day, 3 December, we will be keeping track of all the pork-barrel promises being announced, making sure taxpayers are aware of the cost of the promises to them.
It is not uncommon in by-elections for politicians to pull out the taxpayer-chequebook. Just look at the final "Bibe-O-Meter" from the Northland by-election...
Be sure to keep track of this page as the campaign progresses and the promises roll in.
