ACT right to stop exporting Kiwi jobs with carbon tax

The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming ACT’s plan to reform New Zealand’s climate policy, including cutting the carbon tax, returning ETS revenue to households and protecting Kiwi businesses competing against overseas producers with lower carbon costs.

Taxpayers’ Union Spokesman, Rhys Hurley, said:

“ACT is recognising pushing production offshore to countries with lower carbon costs does nothing for the climate. It simply exports jobs, emissions and investment.”

“Just look at Golden Bay Cement, where taxpayers were forced to stump up $60 million to protect a Kiwi business from going under due to the costs imposed by the Government’s own carbon settings.”

“New Zealand should play its part in reducing emissions, but making Kiwis poorer while shifting production and emissions overseas achieves nothing.”
