Petition: Pause the minimum wage hike

The Government's previously announced 7.27% hike to the minimum wage to $18.90 per hour is scheduled to come in on 1 April.

With so many businesses under pressure due to COVID-19 and predictions of a recession, we're calling on the Government to put this hike on ice until we know the economic effect of the virus. Minimum wage increases put pressures on businesses who may need to decide over the coming months how many to lay off. Now is not the time to hike them.

"With the economic effects of COVID-19 still unclear, and with so many small businesses feeling cashflow pressure, I call on the Government to pause the minimum wage hike until economic conditions allow."
