*UPDATE: POLICY VICTORY! Minister Simeon Brown has listened to the calls of the thousands of New Zealanders calling on him to prioritise safety over revenue. When we work together with "people-power", we can influence Government policy.
NZTA have time and again shown they cannot be trusted with your money. Under the previous Government, their staff numbers nearly doubled, yet they still failed to deliver even the most basic of projects on time, or even at all. Now, under their 'safety' camera expansion proposal, they could be trying to take even more of your money. This proposal simply goes too far and is poorly targeted. It will potentially whack millions of average New Zealand motorists with extra fines, yet will do little do deter those who are the biggest threat to the safety of our roads. We say that the Transport Minister Simeon Brown needs to put his Transport Agency back in its lane, and get it back to focussing on the timely delivery of roading infrastructure and putting out effective transport policy instead of needlessly taxing millions more Kiwis using an ineffective 'safety' scheme. |
