The Taxpayers’ Union is calling on Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick to waive the secrecy afforded to her under Parliament’s OIA carve-out and release the Parliamentary Library costings behind the party’s $1.3 billion KiwiMart acquisition claim.
Taxpayers’ Union spokesman James Ross said:
“The Greens’ KiwiMart numbers clearly don’t add up. Using Cabinet papers cited in their own policy document, the cost to buy 120 supermarkets and the distribution centres alone would be closer to $4.23 billion, 3.25 times the Greens’ figure.”
“MPs carve themselves out of freedom of information laws, so the Parliamentary Library costings the Greens say back them up can’t be requested and scrutinised by the public. But they can be released.”
“All it takes is Chlöe Swarbrick giving Parliamentary Services permission. If the Greens are so confident in their clearly ridiculous $1.3 billion figure, why do they keep choosing to hide it?”
