More Accountability

Championing Value For Money From Every Tax Dollar

Communications Manager

This full-time role is based in our Wellington office.

Do you believe in lower taxes?

Do you want to see less waste and more accountability from politicians?

Do you want to use your exceptional communication skills where you can make a real difference?

If you want to take the next step and build a profile fighting for common-sense fiscal discipline and more accountable government, this is the role for you!

You could be a comms professional who wants to get into a spokesperson role yourself. Or a journalist wanting to get off the fence. Or maybe you’ve worked in law or public policy and are interested in putting your communication and advocacy skills to work at a well-recognised think tank or pressure group.

The Taxpayers’ Union is New Zealand’s largest political advocacy group, using the power of our 200,000 subscribed supporters to fight for a prosperous, low-tax New Zealand with efficient, transparent and democratically accountable government. We use hard-hitting original research and people power to raise awareness and hold politicians to account.

In this role, you’ll be one of the faces of an organisation motivated by improving public policy and advocating on behalf of our grassroots supporters in the corridors of power. You’ll execute campaigns and provide a voice for taxpayers in the media and be a trusted source for information for our hundreds of thousands of subscribed supporters. In this role, you’ll hone your effectiveness as a communicator and team leader.

Day-to-day you’ll respond to unexpected events while simultaneously progressing and overseeing longer-term campaigns. You’ll motivate and upskill researchers and interns, shepherding ideas into compelling research and headlines.

You’ll take the lead on the organisation’s internal communications – delivering persuasive and creative content to motivate, educate, and inspire our grassroots supporters.

You’ll present to Members of Parliament and speak persuasively on radio and television. Oversee social media channels, create email and blog posts, and participate in tours and events to garner support for our campaigns.

Above all, you’ll be fighting for a cause of virtue: protecting hard-working taxpayers and championing the small-government values that have seen New Zealand ranked as one of the world’s most free economies.

The role is based in downtown Wellington, in an office that leans young, and is full of energy. We have a second office in Auckland, and you’ll travel as required as our supporters are across the whole country. We take pride in punching above our weight, and being hungry, nimble, and responsive to the 21,000+ donors who make our work possible. The Taxpayers’ Union encourages all of its staff to take advantage of international training opportunities and secondments to our sister groups for professional development. Professional media training will also be made available.

So, if you’d be proud to take a leading role in one of the most effective grassroots organisations in New Zealand, let’s talk!

Note: we will be interviewing applicants as they are received, so don't wait to drop us a line if you're our person for the role.
