Petition: Climate change grandstanding is not core business

Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese is this week asking her Council to declare a 'climate change emergency', asking Nelson City to be the first local council in the country to do so.

This is the same Mayor that last year took a 36,000km climate junket to Denmark. Perhaps she should be declaring a hypocrisy emergency?

Regardless, local councils should stick to their knitting – roads and rubbish – instead of making declarations on global issues.

Local councils should stick to core business and not grandstand on central government issues like climate change.
